Arlington kids who don’t play ball/stick sports deserve some space too!

Here are some approximate comparisons (source: Google Earth mapping):

The proposed bike usage area of Hills Hill = 0.65 acres (8/2/22 feasibility Study Presentation)

  • The Thorndike Dog Park = 0.40 acres

  • Robbins Farm Playground and Slides = 0.65 acres

  • The (5) tennis courts at Wellington Park = 0.75 acres

  • Ed Burns Arena, building only = 0.83 acres

  • A typical Arlington Little league baseball diamond = roughly 1.25 acres

  • A typical Arlington youth soccer field = roughly 1.3 acre

  • The AHS Soccer and Football Field = 1.75 acres

  • Ed Burns Arena, building & Parking = 2.13 acres

  • The recently renovated Arlington Reservoir Beach Area = 2.25 aces

  • Stop & Shop supermarket & Parking lot = 2.60 acres

  • The AHS Track & field facility = 3.65 acres

Liability will be handled in a similar manner to the town tennis & basketball courts, baseball & soccer fields.

By its very design, this is a low-maintenance recreational resource that will require little to no overhead from the town to maintain, especially compared to other recreational use parcels in the town. It is expected that there will be a high degree of Volunteer involvement in maintaining it in conjunction with the local chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association, Greater Boston.
